    X300 and mulching kit

I bought a new X300 and the 42 inch mulching kit a few weeks ago.

The installation manual for the mulching kit states that it is very important to only use the mulching blades provided with the kit. However, the mulching blades look exactly the same as the blades already on the mower deck.

Just wondering if it is really necessary to replace the blades or if I can just keep the new blades for use after the current ones wear out. All of this is new to me as I only recently moved out to the country and never had to use anything but a push mower before.

    Thanks.

    John

If they are JD blades they should have a part no. on them . See if they are the same part no. Typically a mulch kit will come with high lift blades so the clippings are cut into finer pieces . Hopefully someone else will chime in just in case I am mistaken .

Sounds like your deck already came with mulching blades to me. I do agree to look at the part# for more info.

The std blades for the 42 deck are close but different than mulching blades. The std blades are a slightly higher lift. The mulch blades are flatter on the tip section.
High lifts are for bagging. The space under the deck is very close, I'm not sure a high lift will clear the mulch insert. I know a Gator blade will not fit.
