Goof up! Put oil in gas tank

I know. Who would do something like this? But, we did. We're out working after dark and picked up the used oil container and poured some in the gas tank. We don't know how much. Maybe a pint...or a quart? We did this to a D140 lawn tractor. The mower hasn't been started since this error. What to do now....finish filling with gas and start up?? Is it necessary to drain the gas tank?? Would appreciate advice. The lawnmower is sitting there useless while my grass grows by the hour.

    Welcome to GTT Janice.
If you can drain it out easily, do it.
If you can't, go buy a set of new spark plugs and run it. Change spark plugs when/if needed.

Yup, no big deal. Drain it if you can, refill with fresh gas and don't be surprised if it smokes a bit. No harm done.

    Welcome from West Virginia

Like Gizmo you can fill it the rest of the way and then change plugs next time you add gas.

    Or

Shut the gas off at the tank , either siphon the gas out or take the tank off the tractor and dump the gas out .

    either way is OK.

You should go out and buy a brand new 1025r, but that's just my $0.02.

and the most important accessory spinning wheel spinner.

Thanks to all. Siphoned out the gas, refilled it, and it runs like a top.
