    Media Library - F-15 Video

About 10 minutes long - best to go full screen with your headphones on.

That was wild. There is an F-15 on display where I work. I always pictured them being some large aircraft, but they are pretty small. If it wasn't for the fact I'd barf my guts out, it would be a blast flying one of them.

Any idea what the "award" was for????

    I don't know.

I can't go into any details, but I'm around F-15s a lot, and I'm around F-18s also. The F-15 is simply an awesome aircraft, and one of the best fighter jets ever made. They will be tough to replace if the production line ever shuts down.

What? I thought one F-35 equals about 247 F-15s plus a few F-16s and F-18s. Maybe I'm just thinking pricetag.

That's cool you're "around" them. I see parts, that's about it. Nothing really fun.

It's still up in the air if the F-35 will ever go into production. Lockheed is over budget, behind schedule and the program has several major issues. The Air Force has served them notice that the program is close to be shut down, though I doubt if that will happen yet. The Navy/Marine version has a glaring flaw, it can't land on an aircraft carrier yet. It needs a major tail hook redesign first.

A few years back the Air Force wanted a flyoff with the F-15 and the F-22. So to make the F-22 more competitive the F-15 pilots were told to limit the F-15s capabilities, in essence the F-15 was forced to fly with one wing behind it's back. And it still came out on top. Speaking of a F-15 with one wing:

You know you are getting old when you remember this incident with the wing happening. Never knew that the company tried to say it was a taxi accident.

The company didn't try to say it was a taxi accident, but when they first heard about it, that was what they thought happen. The company investigation team did not know the story until they got there. BTW, McDonnell Douglas has since merged with Boeing and still make the F-15, which is still going strong even after almost 40 years of production.

It is amazing how long some of these aircraft last. Just shows how much technology went into them to start with. It's hard to believe the F-117 started flying in the 80s.
