    Lets talk lights!

    Hi all,

Bought a new 2025r and do think I need some additional lights. The two on the fenders are completely blocked by the loader mounts LOL...they really dont do much. I did buy the guards for the rops lights, and there is a handy hole in the top for mounting additional lights. With the light kit JD sells, do they really simply "plug in" somewhere ? or do they need to be spliced in? I know I could save money with some aftermarket lights, but I can't stand splicing into electrical wires...they never seem to last, no matter what you use for tape and shrink tubing...If the JD lights really just plug in somewhere I'd go that route...2 work lights and a rear light. Has anyone installed the JD lights?....and do they just plug in somewhere?

There are plugs at the base of your rops. They look like black lozenges at the end of wires. One end pops off and then you can connect stuff to that. You can buy those connectors at...I was about to say Radio Shack, but now that most of those are gone I don't even know where. An auto parts store maybe? If you don't see them, stick your fingers in the hole at the base of the rops bar and fish around for wires.

Yes, the CUTs come prewired from the factory with connectors in the wiring harness that you can connect lights to. BTW, after-market lights will connect to the wiring harness just as easily as the "official" Deere lights do.

NAPA carries connectors that fit. I'm sure hundreds of other places do too.

I got connectors from NAPA and then built a custom setup with 4 smaller and 1 bar light. Wasn't that hard, and I got a lot more light then the factory kit for less money.

I replaced the headlights and fender light bulbs with LEDs and put a single LED on the back. It's enough light to see all around very clearly and a huge improvement over the factory stuff.

For the fender lights, you need something that puts all of the LED elements inside the reflect, which most of these types of bulbs don't do. This one works:

For the headlights, pretty much anything of the right type will do. I got these:

They don't make these anymore, but any replacement bulbs of that type will work and will be a big improvement.

This is the light I have mounted to the top cross bar of ROPS, and wired to bullet factory connectors behind the seat. More than enough light for night time snow blowing in winter and I can rotate it rearward if I ever need to use the backhoe at night.

Mike, the third link you provided, the ones you said you put in the back. I have the turn light protectors and they have a hole centered on the top. Seems like with the single bolt mounting, they would work well on top of the protectors. Did those lights come with a harness to run to bottom of ROPS?

No, they didn't come with anything except a short wire sticking out of the light. But I didn't mount them there. Your tractor has a single light bracket on the left fender, it's where the dealer installs the rear light for the absurdly expensive LED light kit. I just ran a wire from that to the lozenge plugs in the base of the ROPS.

This light is bigger than the dealer's light, so you can't fold the rops down without it touching, but I never do that, I just leave it in the upper folded position. If you fold it down, get a smaller light.
