Gen II 2025R missing out, running rough.

    Hi all.

Was using the 2025 for a bit of light backhoe work, and when I finished, I headed back up the drive and it began running rough and RPM dropped way down. My first thought was that it was somehow out of fuel, but its got 3/4 tank. It got worse quick, until it sounded and felt like it was running on once cylinder. I shut it down because it was shaking so violently.
It restarted just fine, ran fine for a bit, but when I went to turn, it did it again. Restarted fine, then every once in a while, while trying to reproduce it, it would stumble a bit, the engine speed would slow, but it would recover. It did this a few more times while I was messing with it.
I did get a video of it the last time I was able to get it to stumble, but I stink at uploading that kind of stuff.

I hesitate to call the dealer since its not easy to reproduce. I think they would just check it over and say they cant find anything at this point.
The fuel is from the same place I get fuel for the car, Country Mark, and always seems to have better fuel than the other stations.
Fuel is always treated with Stanadyne Performance.
I dont think its a fuel specific issue, meaning the fuel thats in it is good, but what else could it be?
Almost acts like the fuel pump or related is going, but they generally work or dont.
I did notice while looking that there are a number of fuel related filters. The see through of course, then the one under the floor board that we thought they got rid of, but didnt, and what appears to be another in line after the see through filter. That last one is a metal type.

Tractor did sit for about a month or so (parked inside), but its sat before with nothing like this.
Ive got a lot of work coming up for it, so any help appreciated.

    Two quick thoughts:
    1) Clogged fuel filter, especially if it has one under the floorboard like the 1-series has, that is a common issue.
    2) Bad lift pump. Do you hear it running when you turn the key on?

    1) Not enough hours Id think to have a clogged filter. Always clean in the jug and out of it. Kind of OCD about keeping fuel clean in containers, but I also realize that stuff happens. Only about 30 hours on it. It LOOKS ok, but thats not really a good test...lol.

    2) I can hear it, but it sounds a LOT quieter than it used to. Used to be able to hear it clattering away pretty good with the key on and not running.

The number of hours has nothing to do with how quick a fuel filter can plug up. It’s also fairly cheap and easy to change them.

Ok, so in my haste to post (post haste? LOL!), the silver thing I mistook for a filter is the pump.
Just past the pump, the line is slightly kinked.
Not bad, but could restrict fuel.

As of now, Im planning to pick up the floorboard filter tomorrow, and find a correct sized fuel shut off, and install both.

The odd thing is, to me, if that filter were plugged, it would not like full throttle, and a load. Didnt seem to bother it much.
I certainly hope the filter is it, but that seems way to easy for the symptoms I was having.

In looking at it a bit closer, and with more light, it appears I have a related issue that Iíll address when I change the filter.
My display was changed twice, and apparently the fuel line was pinched between the frame and dash tower.
Obviously it lets the tractor run, but this certainly canít help.
There is also an obvious kink in the line by the filter.
So it looks like Iíll have a bit more time than just the filter change, but not too much more.
Thanks for all the help, Iíll report back one way or the other!

Jim, the fuel line for the 1025 is 5/16", I'd suspect the 2025 is also as it uses the same inline filter. You mentioned a fuel shutoff. Got mine at TSC, $15. I put the shutoff in place of the filter and moved the filter to under the hood for better access.

Your second picture, showing the inline filter and kink, I'd suspect the 1/4" barb wasn't cut off the filter and may be contributing to the kink.

Also, I'd suggest picking up a couple of the inline filters. I try to keep at least 1 or 2 on hand for the reason you described. Seems they always look fine but are really plugged or semi-plugged. Plus my X360 uses the same filter so I'm ready for that tractor too.
