Adding Power Steering to a Ford 860 gas tractor

A friend has a Ford 860 gas tractor. It has a weird shift pattern 5spd and live PTO. He wants power steering. Can it be added? How hard is it to add? Is there a kit? Factory or aftermarket? Or other model Ford tractors parts can be "stolen" from? Any ideas on cost to do this?

I feel sure you can. When I was a kid a couple of my older cousins added powersteer to I believe it was a Ford 2000. Their steering setup looks the same as the older Powermaster series.

Here's a kit that names most every Ford Powermaster other than a 860 but they're largely the same tractors with few differences if I'm not mistaken. Certainly the same steering setups I'm pretty sure.

There are noticeably cheaper kits (like under $500) that pop up if you Google, "add powersteering to old ford powermaster tractor."

We have an old Ford 861 diesel with I'm thinking the same transmission you're describing. The shifter rides up and down/forward and back. The farthest up and forward is 3rd, and farther up and bach is reverse. Middle forward is 2nd and middle back is 1st. Bottom forward is 4th and bottom back is 5th. I use to love this transmission until the gears on the front of the input shaft got ate up.

I may not have the model number correct, that's what he told me it was. I'll ask him if he wants to spend $1500+ for PS
The shifter, IIRRC moves left and right , not forward and back, but maybe someone had it apart It DOES go up or down for three different levels and swings left to right at each level. I think you have the gears right for each level. Or you may be right about forward and back???
