    Simplicity w/Kohler Command. Gaskets???

I have a Simplicity with a Kohler Command CV16s vertical shaft engine. This engine has a severe oil leak. At first I just figured it was the crankshaft seal on the bottom. I have pressure washed the motor and ran the engine. It appears that the oil is seeping out between the crankcase and block. I checked out my resources(Parts Tree) and cannot find a gasket for this area. I haven't rebuilt a motor since the early 90's. It's been a long time, but something tells me that Kohler uses a sealant instead of gaskets in some areas. Any help would be appreciated.

You are correct, Randy. Maybe not one of their best ideas, but it seems to work as well as gaskets. If you don't have a service manual for that engine, you can look at or download one for free at www.kohlerplus.com . It's been some time since I looked but I'm pretty sure the recommended type of RTV and how to apply it will be in that manual.
    Good luck with the project.

Thanks tommyhawk, I'll do some digging and keep you posted. Call me old fashioned, but I'm still a gasket guy.
