    Stabbing on UF Campus

I am brand new to this forum so if this is out of line I apologize. However I must tell this story of God's grace.

If anyone saw there was a guy attacked on the University of Florida Campus Monday morning.

Hatchet-Wielding Man Suspected of a Stabbing on University of Florida's Campus Shot and Killed by Police : News : University Herald

He was not stabbed but slashed three times. His left wrist about 1/2"-3/4" deep and 4 inches long, his chest from his collar bone to his waist and his throat on the right side 3"-4" inches long.

I'm pulling onto campus (I work for Shands Hospital on Campus) and see the black jeep speeding away, not really thinking anything about it. Then I see this guy on the ground who was behind the jeep and I'm thinking this is a hit and run but now the jeep is too far away to get the plate number. Fortunately two girls got it. I was the first person to get to him. I get to the guy and there is a pool of blood under his head the size of a dinner plate and all over him. It took me 5 seconds to find the cut on his neck and get pressure on it. He was trying to hold his throat with his left hand but the slashed wrist was pouring blood that's why it took a bit to figure out where the slash on his throat was. His wife is screaming hysterically just like you see in movies and the two girls won't get close along with two other UF employees. I am on my own.

I'm thinking this guy isn't going to make it I don't have enough hands to put pressure on all the cuts. The cops show up and with the extra hands I'm thinking we can do this until the ambulance gets here but the blood is still pouring out even with all our hands and I'm seriously getting worried for the guy.

I begin praying, "Jesus you have to stop the bleeding, In Jesus name the bleeding must stop."

    The bleeding stops!!!!!!!!!

    Hallelujah!!!!!

I find out the next day from relatives the hospital don't know how he survived. The slashes should have bled him out.

So, there really are people who care and will get involved to help someone. Thank you. I think we would all like to think that we would do the same, but obviously not everyone does.

Mikey Thanks for sharing the story and for a great outcome. I know what you did took guts, and thankful for that. I've been trained to many times to remember on First Aid. I hope and pray that if the need arrives I have the strength to do what you did. Most of us know prayers are answered, sometimes not that quick , and not always the answer we was wanting. For your prayer I believe you are what a lot will call you a HERO ! Thank You. Gene

    Welcome Mikey

I followed that story in the Gainesville Sun News.
My SIL lived and worked in Gainesville for 20+ years and she still
owns a house at Hunter's Run (that she rents out). We have other
family members in town and we have property in Suwanee (Dixie County)
and Mc Alpin (Lake City). I have been very concerned about the
changes I have seen in N Central FL in the last ten years. That area
used to be pretty vibrant but times are getting tough and people are doing some
crazy things on occasion. Sorry to hear that you were directly affected but it
sounds like you kept a level head. I read your other post and you clearly have a
nice place there to enjoy that new-to-you JD.
Glad to have you here at GTT !

I would not call it heroic. I just can't, not help someone, and that guy needed immediate action or he would have died. I did not even think about it just acted. I worked in a slaughter house when I was younger and have worked for a hospital since 2009 so the blood was not an issue.

I am an A/C contractor and my wife is always complaining I give work and parts away too cheap sometimes but I can't not help....
