Surface Pro 3 - Anyone using one?

I've had Andriod tablets and am currently using an iPad 3 but am looking for a tablet that can do more. I don't need a full on laptop replacement but if I want to edit an Excell workbook I want that capability. I know Excell is now available for the iPad but I hate what has been done with IOS 8.

So, thoughts on the Surface Pro 3 from those that have used them?

Also being considered is a small Lenovo laptop that can fold over on itself as a tablet.

I think what you might really enjoy is one of those new portable hand held communicators. Unfortunately they only come in one color combination which is Taxi Cab Yellow & Pink soft top.
Made by the Ticondoroga Compan & most people know it as a Pencie with a pink eraser at the top.

Sorry I could not resist. Im going nuts right now with my ancient computer.

I have the original Surface Pro and like it a lot. All of my gripes about it have been addressed in the upgraded versions. I think the biggest killer is the lack of apps for windows. Same reason their phones aren't selling well.

My mom purchased a surface last November. The first thing we both hated was all the updates it need, for the first 5 hours it updated. The next thing she did not like was the lack of apps. I have been told that the pro's are not forced to use the MS store and you can use any windows comparable program. It went back the next day and she got a droid based tablet.

Another reason I went with the Surface Pro is that I have to use websites that have documents that require Java to view them. No mobile device I know of can do that. I have heard of alternative browser apps that can work around it but I haven't had any luck.

Safari, keyboard (lag, stupid emoticon button, etc), crashing even though I have done a complete wipe and the biggie, the native VPN service no longer functions as it should.

I have had a Surface Pro 3 for about 3 weeks now. I just sent mine back to be replaced by an Apple Ipad Mini w/ Retina display. My biggest gripes with the surface is the lack of apps, the hibernate function on the new Pro 3, can't play my Itunes music, movies, or apps and the fact that the unit died in 3 weeks. Apparently Microsoft has been having major issues with the Pro 3's that run the Intel I7 core processor which I had. It tried to do an update last week and suddenly went blank. Tried to do a hard reset several times to no avail. The unit becomes extremely hot and the fan runs constantly yet the screen would not come on. While I like certain features of the surface, they are all features obtainable on the Ipad. Just my 2cents!

If you want a tablet to play games and just have fun with, or to have the cool apps, then get an iPad.

If you want something to replace a tablet, or if you want to use it like a tablet, or use any of your standard desktop apps, then get a Surface Pro. If you want a PC on the go, then a Surface Pro is what you need.

My wife has an iPad. I want a Surface Pro for my uses.

I have a surface pro 3 that I got about a month ago. I upgraded from the surface pro 2. It is one of the best tablets I have had and the larger screen makes a big difference. I also bought the docking station with it. I got the I7, 512GB model. It runs Windows 8 Pro which includes bitlocker encryption. Given it is native windows and a native Intel processor it runs everything a desktop or laptop will. I have Office 2013 on it, a variety of adobe applications, as well as many others.
