    First Job?

I stole this idea from another forum I'm on. Thought it was pretty fun. Lots of differences based on generation.

My first paycheck job was detasseling corn. I remember doing it three different summers although although I quit the second day my third year. They wanted me to be a crew foreman and I decided I was going to head a different direction in life Don't know why looking back. I would've been able to drive the tractor all day as a foreman. Guess I was a glutton for punishment

I went to work for a landscaper after that, then lawn sprinklers, lawn mowing, and so on amongst other various jobs in high school. I remember feeling I was paid pretty decent for a high school kid. Funs times looking back on it, but sure put in some long days.

My Mom got me a job doing construction cleanup for the home builder she worked for. I was under age, so I got paid less than I should, but it was in cash, so there was that. Then I worked as a shop boy in my neighbor's welding shop. I was technically old enough to only work in the office, but I worked in the shop. Got real checks from that place...

My first job was working has kitchen help at the YMCA camp. I had been a camper there has a small child. When I was 13 I started working there. Up at 5:30 to get breakfast going worked about 10 hours split up for the three meals. Campers came in Sunday afternoon then left Saturday morning. I was free on the weekend. We were about 1 1/2 mile from the YWCA camp and they were on the same schedule we were. I earned 90$ for that first summer and thought I was in fat city. The second and third summers were a blast.

I worked in tobacco and then a kitchen and then building horse fence. Later in high school I worked for a tractor dealership doing odd jobs in the morning and then a wiring harness factory at night. Through college was all coop and internship stuff. I have a wide range of experience.

My first real job was at 15 when I worked at a hot dog fast food place named Wiener King (I'm not making this up, I swear). And for anyone interested, yes, they served corndogs. The only good parts about it were getting a regular paycheck, and their "slaw dogs" ( hot dog with slaw, chili, onion and mustard).

Does a paper route count? I canít remember when I did that, I think it was about 7th grade. Bucked hay bales during summers and split firewood in fall and winters.
9th-10th grade I worked at a rental store after school and on weekends & summer. Rebuilt small engines and did routine maintenance on rental equipment.
Summer after 10th grade I got a job framing small commercial buildings.
11th-12th grade worked at a different rental store, working on larger rental equipment.
Also took care of 50-55 horses throughout high school, but it wasnít really a job. They paid in beer only so thatís not really a job...

My first real job was working at a local asphalt oval track in the 70's. Cleaned up after the races, painted, and pushed a blower around the track. It was a Winston racing series Nascar asphalt modified sponsored place so all the big guns raced there back then. Guys like Geoff Bodine, Ray Everham, etc.
I used to drive my Honda Trail 50 to and fro.

As a kid I worked on a few of the neighbors dairy farms , doing field work like bailing hay. My first real job was at age 16 at a greenhouse doing maintenance work. After graduating high school i moved on to the construction trades. Still doing maintenance work, now itís paper mills and power plants.
