    Oklahoma City

I was in Oklahoma City this week on business. I had a little extra time so I went to see the 1995 Federal Building Bombing memorial and museum. Pretty sobering!!!

The state bought the second building to the North of the Murrah Building soon after the bombing. It was owned by the telephone company, but they were only using the bottom floor. It had considerable damage, but it was renovated and we (The Department of Environmental Quality) moved in maybe a year after the blast. We would often walk down town for lunch, but I couldn't walk on that side of the street. Seeing the fence, and the notes, teddy bears, etc. really choked me up. I was there until the year 2000 when I retired. I have seen the Memorial, but not the museum. Haven't been there for maybe 10 years, but the memories are still fresh.

Our office at the time was about three miles to the NW of the blast; I thought at first it was a jet breaking the sound barrier really close. We didn't lose any widows to my knowledge, but it was pretty loud. My daughter lost a Sorority Sister; I had a friend who was in the Water Resources Building, just to the NW of the blast who was injured by flying glass. I had been in the Murrah Building a few months before.
