    RIP R. Lee Ermey

Actor R. Lee Ermey dies at 74.

Don't know about you, but this was a shocker for me. He was an entertaining fella, I really enjoyed his projects to include his famous role in "Full Metal Jacket."

    Godspeed Gunny!

I really enjoyed his few TV shows. Mail Call and Lock N Load, and just about all of the movies he was in, even in bit parts.
I also enjoyed watching some videos featuring him in shooting competitions with his M1.

The Gunny played the role in Full Metal Jacket just like he lived it. He was typical of all the drill sergeants I encountered in the Army in 1965. Unfortunately, drill sergeants can no longer treat recruits the same way. No one ever got hurt being called names. We all came out a hell of a lot stronger than when we started. The nicest name I was called in basic training was a g-- dam- f'in trainee.

Rest in Peace, Gunny. You will be remembered as a great American and a great Marine.
