    51 Years ago JFK

I'm sure most of us living 51 years can remember where we were, and what we were doing ,when we heard the news .

Our nation lost our 35th President at 12:30 pm CST in Dallas, and to this day we still don't know who really shot him . I'll stick my foot in my mouth and say I don't and won't believe Oswald was the lone shooter or if he even fired the rifle.

My wife now ,and I was in Study Hall in the school library , we were 12 yrs old and in the 7th grade.

We're about the same age then, as I was in 8th grade English class when it happened.

In the lunch line at school when I heard, would have been 12 also, guys, we're getting too old!

And, I agree, Oswald was just the scapegoat!

I was nine years old and in the fourth grade. We were called to the gym and advised that the President was shot and school was being closed for the day. At that time we didn't know he was dead.

This really hit us hard being that we lived in Massachusetts. My father and uncle both worked for New England Telephone at the time. They were the "trouble-shooters" and installed and maintained the phone system at the President's Hyannis, Cape Cod compound. They were on duty whenever the President was visiting. Dad always said they were always treated very well by the President's family and staff and never missed a meal!

They closed the school here for the rest of the day and we were all taken home.

    Yep, Oswald was a "patsy".

Sad day in history, no matter your political views.

I was in my last year of college, newly married, going to school and working as a painter to pay the bills. I had just gotten to work where we were painting a home that was being remodeled. I sat down with the rest of the crew, who were just finishing up their lunch, when the finish carpenter came in and announced: "Well boys, they just shot the President". We didn't get much done that day; the lady of the house had the TV on and of course we couldn't keep from watching the continuing coverage.

I was in 5th grade and we had several other classes in the auditorium watching an educational program when the station broke in and announced that JFK was shot. I don't remember if they closed the school early, but it was a Friday and there was no school the next day. My family watched TV news all weekend. We saw jack Ruby shoot Oswald on live TV, and could not believe how that could happen with all the security in place. I guess that was our first thoughts of a conspiracy theory.

Can't believe that was 51 years ago.

Third grade so I am the youngster here based on the earlier posts.
Interesting the demographics of the posters all put us within a couple of years of each other. (only one outlier)
Our schools never closed like those back east apparently did.
It is always interesting to postulate what would have happened if he had not been assassinated.

Found out on my way home from college for Thanksgiving. My Mom and Dad stopped to look for furniture, in a store and we saw it on TV. I agree on the Oswald deal.
