I drove from central MD to the west side of Chicago, IL for a 59 SB for my tractor because a) it included the hitch kit, b) the price was really cheap (it needed a lot of work) and c) I'd never driven across northern, OH and IN - I like to drive through different parts of the country.

And, I stopped in central OH on the way back, surprised my mother on her birthday and took her out to dinner.

I also drove to GA for a hydraulic dump MCS because it was going for $400 and my in-laws live there. And I took paddle boarding lessons from a family friend while there.

People think I'm a little crazy; I think of it as efficient. Equipment, sightseeing and visiting family all at once.

I paid to have my 3720 shipped from Illinois to me. After running all the numbers and factoring the time (like 24 hours of driving) it just didnít make sense. There is a lot of good broker companies out there to get quotes from. And Iím not talking about U-Ship.

At one point in my life when I was into fixing up older L&G tractors and VW TDIs I was looking forward to when I retired so I could take road trips just like JAllen talked about. We never travel or had the urge to so I thought it would be neat to take extended road trips to fetch equipment to work on.

Now...I canít even make the drive to my closest Deere dealer.....

    J3,

I do not have anything to add to this thread - but I was thinking of you and your son yesterday when I was on my way home. I spotted a pretty decent farmall cub like your sons for sale near home. It has a front blade. Just checked and saw it on the Washington DC craigslist for 2000. I am not sure what they normally go for, so wanted to throw this out in case you are interested. It is located in ďCatharpinĒ. Let me know if you want me to take a look at it for you.

Yes I'd do it. If the price is right, the machine is in respectable shape, and you really want it; go for it.

I travelled from Caledon, Ontario to just south of Alexandria, Louisiana a couple of years ago to pick up my two Model 40 tractors. That was about 2200 kilometers each way(1360 miles or so) and I enjoyed every minute of the trip.

I went 175 miles (maybe more, maybe less) one way, to buy my 2030. That was 24 years ago. We were visiting my BIL and I saw it in an "Auto Swapper" book. I asked my BIL how far to the town it was listed in. Less than 20 miles so I went and looked.

600 miles I would have it delivered

I took an Enterprise car rental and drove six hours to buy my 2520, then stayed overnight at a hotel (on credit card points that I otherwise don't use anymore). Where I am, basically only SCUTs can be found, and then only barely, and rarely any used. So I drove to a very-well rated dealer who had a bunch of lease returns on Kijiji, and got an (at the time) great deal. I'll still personally use them, but I'll likely stick to my local dealer, new with warranty, from now on; used basically doesn't exist around here.

Unless I get a smoking deal at the auction...
