My friends' kids, and nephews are at it again.

Every year, since 2001, this close knit, great group of brothers, cousins & friends have built Theme Bonfires for the New Year. The theme is often inspired by a current event of the past year. All are either actual size or larger. Average build time is usually 6 days. Last year, they built a →Link Belt Crane(build video 1),← with a little help from a John Deere, of course.
This year, they're building a Steam Locomotive. I'll be stopping by the location to view the progress; and post pics here.

    In the meantime.........

    Build video 3. New Year 2014 Theme Bonfire - Link-Belt 138 Crane - Part 3 - YouTube

View some of the past bonfires here, until I post more pics.

That is nothing short of spectacular...in fact, it would make a great news story. Would like to see more, including the bonfires. Thanks for posting.

Took a ride to the bonfire location. The crew is busy with the Steam Locomotive, trying to do as much as possible before the rain.
Because of the weather, some of the bonfire builds come down to the wire, completing them New Years eve.
There is a 50% chance of rain this afternoon, with a Flood Watch in effect until Sunday evening. Hope the weather doesn't hamper the build, or more photo taking.

The bonfire is for all who would like to attend. I've seen at least a couple hundred people stop by, on the eve of the New Year, to view it; and let the little ones climb on it.
Gumbo and Jambalaya is usually served after dark. Sometimes, a band offers their services for the night. Of course, the usual fireworks display is at midnight.

I'm in awe of the talent to build it and then let it burn.
