A lot of innocent lives were lost that day. A lot of people became heroes in the face of certain danger or worse. Many many more dedicated themselves to the rescue and aid to those who were directly involved.

All I ask is, what for? What did the perpetrators really gain? A lot of un-needed pain, suffering, and dramatic loss for all, including the people responsible for it.

May we never forget what happened.

Our county in rural Pennsylvania lost two young men on September 11. One of the mothers who is a friend of my wife's, built a memorial park on ten acres of ground. She maintains it like a golf course. Every year we have a memorial on September 11. We have had many very good speakers, some from the NYPD, some from the FBI, some from the military. One year we had the State Homeland Defense Coordinator. We usually have from 300 - 500 people. Every year at the closing, I ask the attendees to return next year and bring someone new. I can't find a decent picture on line. If I can remember I'll post some tomorrow.

At any rate, remember all those lost and their families. I worry that young people will not know the story. When you have the opportunity to tell your children and grand children about September 11, 2001, please tell the story.

Going in to see the the guys I was with that day and the months after. No matter what happens, it’s good to see my “brothers” despite the difficult memories. We get together every year this day to pay tribute to those that are gone and those we continue to lose.

Hard to believe it's been 17 years already. I remember getting a call from my now ex-wife telling me that a plane had crashed into the tower. I ended up going home and watching the coverage on TV. Sat there in total disbelief as the towers went to the ground.

That evening I went to the local Barnes & Nobles to pick up some of the "Special Edition" newspapers. While I was in there I heard a huge BOOM! My first thought was that some skids of books had toppled in the back room or something. Turned out it was a sonic boom from one of the F-16's escorting Air Force One around the country.

Don is right though - tell the kids and grandkids. The kids graduating from high school at the end of this school year were just barely born when this happened. They have no first hand memories of it.

Prayers for all that were affected that day.

yeah it's hard to believe so many yrs have passed already-since that day. I was off work that day due to me having carpal tunnel surgery done. had my neighbor over in the back yard giving a estimate for a dog kennel. when we heard what i thought was a blast go off--working on a strip job(coal company) it just felt like we had just put off a shot, as the ground actual shook underneath us.
here it had been the plane smashing into the ground near Shanksville, roughly 12 miles the way the crow flies--Perry said to me ur neighbor put a shoot off-i said no-my cousin was digging a new septic right below us-we could see him digging-i said that must be some hard slate down there-laughing.

he left and i came inside and turned on the tv-and then i saw what was going on for sure-wife got sent home-as they closed the state park that day. she then went and got our youngest son from school too. we really didn't have any idea what was gonna happen later for sure.

then some time later they showed about Shanksville-and the downed plane-the time it went down--and it all matched my time we heard what i thought was a shot going off. scary stuff.

the little town above me towards shanksville-name of new Baltimore--had burnt pieces of magazines come floating down later that evening--people gathered them up-and some say the FBI came and wanted them-after someone told of finding them.
me--i never got to see any of them pieces-but i could believe the wind could carry them that far--maybe 6 miles-
