Some of my favorite Warbird photos

I've always admired the WWII "Warbird" fighting planes. Went to many air shows for quite a few years. I follow a couple of forums and support the locally based Collings Foundation: Sponsorship - The Collings Foundation

Thought I'd share a few of my favorite WWII Warbird photos. Hope you enjoy these!

Recognize them all and have seen them all in the air at one time or another. Love the old warbirds; there's nothing like the sound of the old piston engines overhead. I recall a car show about 5 or 6 years ago; I was making the rounds when I heard the distinctive growl of a RR engine. I ran to a treeless area in the park just in time to see a P-51 fly overhead. What a thrill! There was a nearby airport (The Guthrie/Edmond airport) where she landed. FWIW, they have an A-26 there in the latter stages of restoration.

Many years ago, on a beautiful Saturday morning, I was reading the paper; the house was open and all was quiet, when I heard the sound of piston engines over head. I ran out in the back yard, only to be met by my neighbor. There were two B-25's and a Texan heading in Northeasterly direction. Turns out he was a sheet metal worker who repaired these old birds during WWII. We talked for maybe an hour; he had some great stories about his experiences in the Solomon Islands.

    Great pics!

    2Lanecruiser,

I have a similar story. I was walking out of a meeting just off Transit Road by the Buffalo, NY airport back in the mid-90's when I heard the distinctive sound of radial engines overhead. I looked around and saw a fully restored Lockheed Electra that had just taken off. I believe this was a similar plane to the one that Amelia Earhart was flying when she disappeared.

The 2 above are from 2007 before they took off. After their demo Precious Metal landed on Stang. Jerry Beck pulled up and fatally pancaked PM. They were about 75 yards from us.

Awesome pictures, thanks for sharing. While I don't take anything away from todays fighter planes and pilots, the pilots who flew these had to be on their game as they did not have computer controlled and laser guided weapon systems. I guess you could say the fighting was more up close and personal. Just my opinion

Please do! I'll bet I have several hundred 5X7's that I took years ago, but they aren't digital.
