    Just cancelled Netflix

Happy New Year fellow GTT folk!!!

After Netflix's recent subscription rise announcement, I decided to bail. We weren't watching it much anyway, we have Amazon Prime Videos as part of a Prime Membership.

The extra two bucks per month was not the issue; I would rather subscription services screw their new customers first before existing ones.

A few more shekels in the pocket each month won't hurt, either...

I enjoy Netflix and use it daily. Price increase - it is what it is. I’d rather pay them them make Jeff Bezos richer than he already is. Amazon has a couple decent shows but not near the selection of Netflix.

We share a Netflix family subscription with my grown kids who were kind enough to give us a password. It's cheap for us

If sharing like that is legal and all I guess I should give my elderly in-laws my login. They are in their late 70’s and canceled Netflix a year ago.

I just never thought it was right.

I corrected my first statement where I said "their", it should be a password. You shouldn't give your "elderly in-laws your login". That would violate the terms of service. My daughter pays for the Premium package and we have our own login which is within Netflix' terms of service.

Hate it al! I grew up on free tv. Never had cable till I moved out and thought $35 per month was too much. Now my direct tv, Netflix and prime pushing $200 a month. Isn’t that a tractor payment? Maybe if we had less to tv and internet we’d be better off! Perhaps kids would play outside like they used to. Maybe we could get along instead of hiding behind a screen name. Oh how I miss the old days.

You and I are in the same boat. Just had an increase for 2019 and the cable bill alone for two DVRs with no premium channels just broke the $200 threshold. That's a lot of money for 150+ channels of commercial-laden unwatchable garbage. We can get 16 channels via an antenna. I see a cord cutting coming soon. 16 channels of free garbage vs. 150+ channels of costly garbage. It certainly would simplify the "what to watch?" question. When I was a kid we could only get 4 channels and somehow we survived (and to get those 4 channels you had to keep turning an outside antenna in different directions). Then again, during the summer we usually spent 8-10 hours a day outside.

I chuckle sometimes at everyone's quest for ever larger and higher resolution TVs. It just makes the garbage all that more detailed. :-)

ct - Bezos has a bedsheet and stock split (divorce) in the works that will considerably lighten his net worth. Next on my subscription cancellation hit parade is a credit monitoring service that I've subscribed to for over ten years following a data breach at my last employer. It sent me monthly alerts that credit card balances grew then shrank as I used and paid off the monthly balances. It gave me a monthly credit report score . A couple of my credit cards offer most of this for free, Discover card even trawls the dark web looking for my SSN each month and both cards offer some form of fraud protection. Therefore, I see no further reason to pay for the active monitoring after July or so.
