    My accountant called today...

And said my Federal Income Tax filing had been rejected because someone had already filed a tax return under my SSN.

    Any one else?

Just spent 3 hrs filing a police report, alerting Eqiufax, printing out the proper forms to include with my mailed in income tax, calling my bank. What fun!

I can tell you, it takes a long time to clean up after Identity Theft. Probably going to take even longer to get the IRS to clear things up. I feel for you. I've had the ID theft. In fact there are still 3 of me, according to online searches. (Now *THAT* is a scary thought!). I guess, so far, I've been fortunate not to have the SS number theft, yet. A lot of us probably will have that, before it is all said and done. I hear there are places that "specialize" in making up SS cards for those here illegally. They probably just make up numbers randomly, but they will be someone else's number, oftentimes.

Keep us posted on how it all turns out.

I had the ID theft twice, not fun but I think mine was less painful than it could have been. Today I came home and checked my answering machine and there was a message in a halting accented voice telling me it was the iRs calling and I needed to call them immediately at a non 800 # to discuss my account and how they were going to ruin my life if I didn't call, that is the second call like that in the last three months. They are out there people!

There has been stories on the local news about this. There must be a big problem here in the midwest. They are advising to file taxes early. If only it was that easy.

Just had another stolen credit card. However, I cannot imagine having to deal with a stolen identity like that though. Dealing with the IRS, etc sounds exhausting. Hope it all gets worked out.

The IRS is getting better dealing with false filings. Only takes about 3 months after your claim.
You would think the IRS could figure out if I live in WI why would I be sending my refund to a bank in GA.
If you have relatives or friends near death, remind someone to file their taxes before they pass. It appears the bad guys are using obituaries or funeral home web sites for information and false file within days of the person's passing.

The local news here warned of this scam also. I like it when I answer the phone and they try to pull this crap, I really have a fun time with these people.

Same thing here with the fake IRS call. E-mailed the phone#, date and time of call to our States Attorney General Office along with an explanation of what happened.
Must be some of that "Hope and Change" thingy.........
