    Lee Iacocca 1924-2019

ONe of my favorite car men. I am convinced that without Lee Iococca there would be no Chrysler and Jeep vehicles today.

Lee Iacocca dies: Father of Mustang, rescuer of Chrysler was 94

His book was a great read, Kenny.

The K Car was the car that started Chrysler on the road to recovery.

Yes, I believe he was influential in the design of the Pinto, said to be the reason that Ford fired him.

    Wow, 94!

Remember the K car, that was what we had at high school for drivers ed.

And buying the mini van when it came out. Trying to find one to test drive and sit in was almost impossible. One dealer had a damaged one (think it was damaged on car carrier), so they used it for test drives. We left the dealer lot with a full van full of potential buyers to give everyone a chance. Then I remember going to every dealer to try to find the one we wanted.

RIP ,, as Kenny enjoyed his book. We bought a 85 or 86 Caravan one winter evening 10-15" of snow on the roof and hood and brushing the snow off the side glass so we could read the options on the van.
A few days later after signing the papers , the dealer wife tells me " It really drives nice" I told her " Don't know I've never driven one, road in my brothers."

She asked what would I do if I didn't like the way it drove

Told her I would trade it in after a couple of years for something else.

I think we owned 6 more over the next 15 yrs or so till we bought the 03 Odyssey .

The first CEO to appeal directly to the public in marketing ads which were successful. He also made the case for why the Government bail out was critical to America's future and the American worker. He was a guy who explained to the masses why something was the best use of tax dollars to help the very people who pay the taxes. A real leader.

Not only did his leadership allow Chrysler to repay the loan 7 years earlier than planned, he also led the effort to purchase Jeep from AMC and look what that has done to the Jeep brand......Amazing results.

After being married to his first wife until she passed away after 27 years, his next two ventures into marriage were not successful. He was married for about a year the second time and had the marriage annulled and then he was married again for 3 years in the early 90's and that ended in divorce as well. Looks like he got it right the first time........

If we had more business executives like him and less who talk DOWN to the public, we would all be better off........RIP Mr. Iacocca.........a real American business legend.
