    Woods Find

I use the first few weeks of spring to clean up brush from downed trees and trim trails that are getting overgrown until things green up and the brush becomes "lost" in the new growth.

While hauling brush with the 2030 and grapple I spotted a white arc with a fork to it about 20 yards into the woods. My first thought was shed deer antler. I have never found any shed antlers on the property. Never really hunted for them either. I think the critters chew them up pretty quick. The white arc was obscured by a deadfall. I went over and this is what I found: 9pt with a 19" spread. I am guessing from 2013 or 2014. We lost a lot of deer in 2013 to EHD.

Awesome find. Just guessing but that is likely a kill from this past season. You are right that the critters will usually chew the antlers up if they are on the ground for any extended period of time. That would make a nice European mount for the workshop.

Thank you! You beat to the reply. Our area lost a lot of deer. They seek water when infected. My property does not have natural water, as in streams, ponds, swamps, so I have not found the carcasses that owners with water have.

This may have been a hunter kill that was not recovered.

Turkey Vultures will clean one up real fast.
