    Sipsey Wilderness in Northwest Alabama

Some of the prettiest stretches of water in the Bankhead Forest.

Ship of the Forest. We have archived journals entries from a survey crew in 1817 that says, "we are camped under a rock formation that looks like the bow of a ship near the junction of Thompson and Hubbard Creek." Hence the name of the rock formation that it is still known by today.

Wish I could walk those woods, UW! I like hiking in areas such as that, and places with that much beauty in one place are farther between than most would realize. Too much urban encroachment, so only smaller plots of land, is what I noticed, when I traveled all the time and was always looking for off beaten paths. It looks like you could walk all day and not see civilization.

But I have to ask....How are the mosquitos?

Thanks for posting those UW. That really is some beautiful scenery. I can only imagine how much repellant you would need to walk in those areas this time of year.

No mosquitoes anywhere now. The bugs really get bad between the middle of June and the middle of October. Ticks can be a problem most of the year. We did spray tick repellant on our pants legs but no other repellant used at all.

You are lucky, we have had mosquitos down this way for a few weeks now. The last time I went to my hunting property I think I had enough deet on me that I should have been glowing
