How's the weather at your place? - November 2019

Welcome to the November weather thread!

The Full Beaver Moon reaches peak fullness in the morning of Tuesday, November 12, at 8:34 A.M. EST. Look for it the night before or just after sunset on the 12th.

November’s full Moon was called the Beaver Moon by a number of Native American groups and by colonial Americans. The Native Americans used the monthly Moons and nature’s signs as a sort of natural calendar to track the seasons.

Why this name? This is the month when the beavers begin to take shelter in their lodges, having laid up sufficient stores of food for the long winter ahead. During the time of the fur trade, it was also the season to trap beavers for their thick, winter-ready pelts.

The November full Moon was also called the Full Frost Moon by other Native American peoples.

We ended up with 4" of white stuff today. I just left a post this AM on a plowing thread where I talked about discovering I can use an electric motorcycle vest to plug into the tractor to stay warm; wish I was complaining about not having an air conditioned cab instead. These winters just seem to make the old body parts (the ones that got frozen when I was younger and much dumber) start to hurt. Winter just isn't as much fun as it used to be!

It’s currently 23*. Not sure if we have bottomed out yet. Looks like we won’t be getting much above freezing any time soon. the ground is currently snow covered. Just barely. This snow and cold isn’t unheard of around here, but it’s almost a month early to have it this cold and snow.

    Quick October stats -

    High temp - 86.5
    Low temp - 30.6
    Total rain - 5.85”

    ——————

What a night - wow! Front came through around 5pm with huge wind gusts and downpours. Overnight the wind kept gusting. Will have to wait for daylight to see if I have any tree work today.

Power only flickered 3 times at once around 8pm - never lost it totally.

40* this morning - calling for a high of 41* so what I see now is what I have for the day. Some weird looking blue stuff on the radar.....

Man November already. 32 and just enough snow to be white out. After two days of rain, it turned to snow last night. Dusting this morning mostly on the grass. Sun supposed come out this after and high of 41. Rain and snow mix guessers say tomorrow.

Looks like we have had our 2nd freeze this morning. Glad I have the hay forks on and ready to work. Around here in North Texas these are almost Dec/Jan temps.

    28 this morning.
2-3" of snow cover from yesterdays snow.
Exposed ground and puddles are freezing or frozen.

Wouldn't bother me much but I had plans for this fall.

I have several thousand dollars of wild flower/grasses seed that I wanted to plant in a 1 1/2 acre open area in the woods.
    Fall planting/seeding is always best.

Before I can seed I need to rake the area by hand. I have 3 helpers lined up.

The leaves are not even off the trees yet. Ideally I rake after all the leaves are gone before the ground freezes and the snow flies.

I have the first 2 weeks of Nov. to do this causes after that I'm going on 8-10 day cruise with my son on the Navy ship he is stationed on.
I cruise from Hawaii to San Diego.

Forecast is for below freezing weather in the next 10 days.

Maybe December will be warmer than normal and I can get my raking seeding done then?
    Whats the chance of that?

I may have to sit on the seed and wait till early spring to plant.
