Detective Jorge Del Rio - RIP

Detective Jorge Del Rio of Dayton, Ohio passed away today from a gun shot wound to the face. He was serving a warrant when he was shot. Please take a moment to say a prayer for him and his family. The good people of Dayton have had it tough this year with tornadoes, a night club mass shooting, and now this.

    Sir Jorge Del Rio, RIP

Thoughts and prayers to his family! It is so disheartening the numbers of people on the wrong side of the law, and going down the wrong path in life! So sad!

It's very sad. They had him listed in "grave condition" since the shooting. Yesterday they announced that he was not going to survive his injuries. I just saw the news on TV that he'd passed just a couple minutes before I saw this thread.

He could have actually retired a few years ago, but loved what he was doing and serving his community. God bless him, his family, and his law enforcement brethren.

Thank you, Greg, for starting this thread.

In this day and age, people like this are rare. They truly have a higher calling to put everyone elseís needs above their own. Back in my Dads day of WW2, this type of attitude was commonplace and they didnít think twice about it. You just did what needed to be done. What happened to us in the last 70 years? Thankfully there are still a few left like Detective Del Rio who put others before themselves.

All gave some, some gave all.

I'm not sure why cops are cops. They certainly know the risks. There are many times they find themselves doing things you couldn't pay people to do. Being asked to give your life to help better your community is just one of them.

In an odd coincidence, I noticed that the Iowa shooting took place in Guthrie County; a couple years back a deputy sheriff was killed serving a warrant in Guthrie Oklahoma. I guess I don't understand the mentality of killing a police officer for serving a warrant. I understand the guy in Guthrie OK was high on meth, so maybe that explains it...not to mention that respect for our police officers seems to have taken a catastrophic plunge in some circles in the last few years.
