    Amtrak Train Crash

I was reading this story about the Amtrak Train Crash. The train was traveling at 106 MPH into a 50 MPH curve on the tracks. Engineer Brandon Bostian won't speak to the NTSB and has hired a lawyer. 7 people known dead, over 200 injured and the Engineer won't speak with the NTSB? The train had no automated features and the Engineer was operating the controls. So the Engineer won't cooperate with the investigators. Is there anyone else who believes that he shouldn't be arrested and thrown in jail?

    http://www.nytimes.com/2015/05/14/us...phia.html?_r=0

I'm really sick and tired of these bus, subway and train drivers who shirk their responsibilities, crash equipment that leads to death, injuries and destruction and then run to their unions and get all lawyered up. I've watched coverage of this crash on a number of news networks and it seems that none of the reporters have the instincts to ask about the Engineer's responsibility. Comments from Union personnel & Politicians bring up the need for more investment in maintenance and infrastructure. This is an obvious tactic to swing the focus away from the Engineer who was operating the equipment and responsible for the safety of the passengers and equipment.

When I first saw that news yesterday morning, my immediate thoughts leaned towards domestic terrorism.
If terrorists can hack the train system computers and power grid, what would keep them from carrying out this very scenario?
The I.R.S. must love poor folks, they create more and more every day.

On most of the runs in the NE, they have installed computers to limit the speed of the train. If they had done that on this stretch, this crash wouldn't have happened. That mean the engineer would have been less responsible. If you have a job that has lower responsibilities you should be paid less.

So if the tax payers have to put this kind of safety equipment on the trains to make up for irresponsible engineers, their pay should be cut to offset the cost of the safety equipment.

An then there is the fraud of the "disability" pensions.....

I live not far from the route this train would take north to NYC.
It's called the Northeast Corridor. Goes from DC to like Boston.
Amtrak runs trains over 100 mph all the time. Especially the Acela trains.

Yes, they can easily go over 100, in my line of work I've been less that 100' from the tracks when they go by before-you literally do not even hear them coming, that's why so many get killed from walking on the tracks.

Now it looks like another twist to this, possible projectiles throws or shot at the train(s)?

It's difficult for me to understand how a rock, projectile or even a gunshot could affect the speed of the train going into the turn. It was going 106 into a 50 MPH turn. Maybe it's me and I'm possibly being too suspicious but doesn't the engineer have some responsibility here? Isn't he supposed to monitor, operate and override any automated controls? News reports state that he was both vocal and critical about Amtrak operations, infrastructure and safety. I'm reminded of the Germanwings airline co-pilot Andreas Lubitz who recently intentionally crashed the airliner and killed all aboard. BTW, not that it really matters but this was a relatively new train that was put into service only a year ago.

Understood. My gut tells me to be suspicious and it seems like Amtrak, the NTSB and the media are spreading a cover story.
