And I thought is was the organic fecal matter hitting the big rotary blades.
If man had enough horse sense to treat his wife like a Thoroughbred, she'd never grow into an old nag.

If you climb in the saddle, be ready for the ride!

About 2 1/2 miles east of from my house is the sugar mill.
During harvest season they generate mountains of bagasse (the organic matter that remains after sugarcane
stalks are crushed to extract their juice).
The stuff ferments and lord knows what else, giving off a terrible smell.
When the wind blows from the east, I chuckle at people unfamiliar visiting,
walking around the yard, they look at the soles of their shoes to see if they stepped in something.
Gives you an idea of what it smells like.
Good thing that time of the year we usually get just north or south winds, but every now and
then we get the "evil" east wind.

Another thing about the mill, it's powered by steam turbine, they have their own gas wells.
When they have a "break down" they'll sometimes vent high pressure steam during the day or at night,
sounds like an F 15 taking off at full afterburner next to you even at 2 1/2 miles.
My wife still "jumps" when they do that.

Years before air purifiers , and a good east wind blowing , we could mess or Wesvaco Paper Mill at Luke Md. What a nasty odor ! Could always tell when a storm was coming up the east coast . This plant is app 30-50 air miles away, smelled almost as bad as driving in front of the plant.
