Nice reply. your catching on fast.
Nevermind that fact that they squirm and give no warning if they want off. Or if they fall off, they get chopped to bits.

I ran over a possum in tall grass once, I couldn't fathom hitting a human being...

[QUOTE=JDSwan87;3259230]No pics but I saw my new neighbor cutting grass with his 3yo boy... no hearing protection...

Not smart. When I was a kid, my friend and I were taking a shortcut through the woods to my house, and heard some hysterical man balling and investigated from as close as we dared. Through the woods, we saw some guy on his knees very upset and wailing like a tortured soul. We took off home, and soon the ambulance went wailing up there. Turns out, the new neighbor who built his dream home in an old orchard had his young boy on his lap, kid reached for the controls/ steering wheel and fell off going under the deck... never forgot that.

One of my neighbors was mowing on his D160 with his very active 3 year old on his lap just the other day. I stopped him and explained how dangerous that really could be as frankly, the guy is a very marginal machine operator when the kid isn't on his lap. His response was "Well, he really likes to ride on the tractor with me".....well, he is the "father" and it will be his guilt to live with should something happen................I am sure the kid would find a loaded handgun something he enjoys playing with as well, but sometimes the adults just have to say "Not a good idea."

Changing gears from possible chopped up humans to something of spring's natural beauty........

    I guess I should clarify.

I am completely against people mowing with kids riding on their lap. The hearing protection was what I was focused on but forgot the main subject.

I would think that hearing about just one incident of a child being hurt by a mower would be enough. I wouldn't even allow my grand kids in the same part of the yard with me when I was mowing, and I never had them on the mower with me when I mowed. I've been around long enough to know that bystanders can be seriously injured by rocks, wire and other objects propelled by the mower blades, and although I keep my yard very clean, I didn't want to take a chance. I would pull them in the trailer, or when they got big enough to operate the mower, I would let them drive it, but never with the blade engaged.
