It's already obsolete. Just kidding. Not knowing what you all do with your PC; but I'll hazard a guess that it should last you a few years.

My wife's Dell laptop has Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and so far, so good.

About the only word of caution with 64 bit is with older devices...99.99% of the time its printers and such.
at home I had to "hack" drivers to make my Label printer work (Eltron/Zebra UPS type thermal printer) and my CanoScan same thing... For a techie like me its no problem. BUT it wouldnt be a solution for my parents
When I upgraded them, I put Win7 - 32 Bit on...yeah they COULD run 64 if they wanted, but its not worth the headaches it would have given me

I just found out that i cannot run Office 2007 ultimate in 32 bit and install Office 2010 64 bit.

I am going to office 2010. I hope there is not issue with shareing files with 2007....

Its an all around computer. I do alot of spreadsheets, taxes, memo's. A lot of work stuff from home. I am not into messing with photos or any graphics stuff.

I am hoping for a fast home machine.

Your new/obsolete machine should be fine for those purposes. Enjoy it. The biggest hassle I had with 64-bit was with XP not having printer and scanner drivers for my existing junk.

I have had some issues with printer drivers but I have them corrected now. I had to upgrade to a new version of quickbooks but my quicken worked fine. The fan and HD in this are so quiet compared to my dell and HP workstations. I love it!
