    well I hated to hear about this-but at 79 yrs old-I would say he led a long life-R.I.P.- Merle Haggard. I liked his singing for sure!

    A tremendous loss for sure. I especially remember "Fightin' Side of Me" came out at the time of the Vietnam war protests. It pretty much summed up my thoughts then and still does.

    When I heard the news from a friend of mine who also was a Merle Haggard fan, I told him:

    "Think I'll just stay here and drink...."

    Rest in peace, Merle Haggard. The Heaven's Honky Tonk just got a lot better!

    A big loss indeed. I saw Merle at the grocery store and bass fishing at Shasta Lake several times. He was just a good old boy around here and would always stop and talk to us locals. He sponsored a charity bass tournament 20 miles south of me which was a big deal for the locals. We have his music to enjoy forever.
