    mower problem

    My 60D AutoConnect mower installed on my JD 1025R has quit. The mower parts (belt, etc.) visually look kosher on the tractor. The PTO RPM indicator on the dash show the PTO is fine and working but the blades will not engage. Can anyone please hep me out with this. Thank you in advance!

    The pto select lever, yellow handle, on the left side below the seat, is it in the middle or back position?

    Need more info. I would take the deck off and check belt, gear box and spin the blades by hand. Totally go over the deck. Also would check the drive shaft, couplings and linkage before I got into Mid PTO trouble shooting.

    This should be the first thing you check. Make sure it's in the mid position for the mid mount mower which is all the way back.

    Possibly the PTO selector should be checked to make sure it is the proper position. ???



    Using Rear and Mid Power-Take-Off (PTO)


    IMPORTANT: Avoid Damage! Use rear mounted equipment rated for 540 rpm. Do not operate mid or rear PTO over 540 RPM mark on tachometer.
    NOTE: Mid PTO operation for this machine is not intended to be used when the operator is off the seat. Rear PTO operation is possible out of seat provided proper sequence is followed.

    Engaging the PTO


    1. Sit on operator’s seat.
    2. Lock the park brake.
    3. Move the 2-speed range lever to the N position.
    4. NOTE: The starter will not crank if the PTO/RIO switch knob is in any engaged/on position.
      If the brake is locked, the range lever in N and the Rear only PTO engaged while the operator is in the seat, then the operator can leave the seat and the Rear PTO only will continue to operate.
      Start the engine.
    5. Set engine speed to 1500 rpm or less.

      LVAL38431-UN-02NOV12

      A - PTO Control Lever
      B - Mid PTO Only
      C - Mid and Rear PTO
      D - Rear PTO Only
      E - 3200 RPM
      F - LCD
      Move the PTO control lever (A) to desired operating position.
      • Position (B) - Mid PTO only.
      • Position (C) - Mid and Rear PTO
      • Position (D) - Rear PTO only.



    7. Pull PTO/RIO switch knob up to the engaged/on position.
    8. Adjust the hand throttle lever forward to the desired speed for the implement used.
      • NOTE: The LCD indicates the PTO speed at an engine speed of 3200 rpm.
        At 3200 engine rpm the mid PTO speed will be 2100 rpm and rear PTO speed will be 540 rpm, as indicated on the LCD.
      • If PTO shuts off during use, turn off engine and push down to turn off PTO/RIO switch. Lock park brake. Allow engine to cool. Check coolant level and add coolant if necessary. Clean debris away from radiator cooling fins. Sit on seat, and start engine. Pull PTO/RIO switch up to the on position. If PTO still does not engage, see your local John Deere Dealer for service.



    Disengaging the PTO


    1. Adjust engine rpm to low idle.
    2. Push PTO/RIO switch knob down to the disengaged/off position.

    Update:
    A week ago or so I inspected more closely under tractor and discovered that the mid PTO shaft had broken at the dog ears at the point where it attaches to the tractor (also, lost U joint except what broke off in the dog ears). Apparently, this kinda damage is very uncommon from my research on the Net. There is a member on here that has had the identical damage done and much better pictures but I cannot find that link... sorry. However, I was very pleased to know as in his case that warranty covers it. So, my tractor has been at JD ever since the day after stopping by dealership after returning from VA... a few days ago.

    I am including my pathetic pic.
