Talk to me about blades for the 1-series MMM (particulary the 60D)

    (1) My understanding is that the TCU15881 blades that come on the 60D are a high lift style blade, is this correct?

    (2) What are "Gator" blades and how do they differ from the "stock" 60D blades that come on the deck from the factory? Are Gator blades basically a high lift mulching type blade (a.k.a. chop up the grass extra fine but have more lift than a regular mulching blade)? My dealer had an Oregon "Gator" blade in stock and it seemed to be a high lift design with some very aggressive "gator" like teeth cuts on the back of the blade (opposite of the sharp cutting edge). Was this most likely a "gator" blade?

Left are factory "high lift " blades. Middle are the mulch kit medium lift blades. The right one is a predator blade I got on eBay. It seemed to work well when I used it with my mulch kit.

Predator or Gator blades are the same thing. They work very well. I'm waiting for my OE blades to wear out to get me a set. It's all I used on my last tractor. They do have a different sound, like a turbo or jet engine. All be it a small one.

Cool let us know how you like them. When I got my mulch kit the factory blades had to ground down to fit the new baffles. The Predator blades went right on with no fitment issues. I'd like to get one of these http://www.amazon.com/MaxPower-13216...+blade+balance, but they are little spendy... I'm sure once I have it I won't think twice about the $$ as I'm 35 and I know I haven't bought my last mower blade..

In all the years I've been sharpening my and other's mower blades, I've never needed anything more than the simple 2 piece $6 cone type balancers sold in HW stores and box stores. They are way better than a nail in the wall as they balance the blade flat just like that platinum plated one in the link. Now, if you are talking balancing jet turbines....

I'm still with the nail on the wall type of balancer.

They look great and the price is right. Will they fit your 60D?

Will do! The Oregon fitment listing indicated that these fit the 60D, so we'll see what happens when I actually go to mount them. I may try the Predators if these don't work or don't work well. I'd like to find a "gator" style blade and stick with it and if it takes some experimenting, well, sometimes that's hows things have to play out.

I'm right there regarding your thougts on the blade balancer, I'd love to buy one and see how it stacks up against the nail method. I'm 36 so, hopefully I still have many more good years on my clock of playing with the adult "toys!"

Seems like yesterday that I was 12 years old, dreaming of owning a bad @ss machine to work on my own property with... Now I just need time to allow me to play!

We need the blade manufacturers to start a "try it before you buy it" blade program, lol!
