    Quick, Easy and Inexpensive Improvement to Cab Dome Lights

    Recently, in my quest to eliminate incandescent light bulbs on my tractor and to improve the light's function, I found a very inexpensive kit designed to upgrade incandescent interior lights in any vehicle. I just happened to put this kit to use in my 1025R with the Mauser Cab. When I have used the dome light while plowing snow, it has worked alright, but why not make it much brighter and remove the heat source from inside the light fixture in the roof of the cab? While the heat from the bulbs is only likely to impact the dome light fixture itself, why not remove the possibility of melting the light lens or otherwise causing damage over time, not to mention make the light much, much brighter?

    The entire kit with the components to update several interior light fixtures costs $8.59.

    Here is what the kit looks like when it arrives.

    Here are the contents of the bag on the counter, so you can see what's in the kit.

    The dome light fixture with the incandescent bulbs.

    The inside of the light fixture.

    Remove the incandescent bulb and insert the spring loaded adapter in which the LED diode plus into. Here is what the light difference is between the incandescent bulb and the LED upgrade, it's dramatic.

    Here is what it looks like from the light underside when installed.....

    Here is the light with the LED upgrade installed and operating, you can see the LED diode laying in the fixture. It is held in place with adhesive back tape on the LED unit;

    Here is the light on and WOW, what a difference. The Dome light is easily 5 times brighter in the cab when in use. It's hard to show the comparison in a photo, but it's dramatic.

    A upgrade that takes less than 5 minutes and improves the lights significantly. Also, I still have enough components left in my kit to either upgrade other interior lights or keep some spare parts in the tool box. Think I will put them to use in the SUV's.................

    For $8.59 for the entire kit, its a low cost upgrade which really improves the light output.

    Thanks, very simple the swap out and the results are significantly better than the incandescent bulbs.

    On the light fixtures with the spring loaded adapter like I used, one end of the bulb clamp is actually the positive end and the other the ground, which I forgot to mention in the thread. So when you install the spring loaded adapter and obviously make sure to plug the LED red to red, black to black to the adapter, if it doesn't work at first, swap the ends of the adapter and that should resolve it. You don't have to do that with the incandescent bulb the way they are made, but with the LED adapter, you need to be aware of this so it works as shown.

    I have some other LED upgrade projects pending which might happen today. So stay tuned..........

    LED lights really are an amazing thing. Very bright, very low power consumption and the ability to change colors, brightness, etc. and very reasonably priced. I wish I had thought to invent them.......

    The underside of the housing where the LED adapter mounts, it's stuck to the bottom side of the wires, but it also is a fairly tight fit so it's not going anyplace.........the double sided tape just holds it in the center of the lens so it's not slid off to one side, so it doesn't take much to hold it.

    When the adapter is installed, I tucked the black plastic connector under the spring loaded adapter and that's what the tape is stuck to. None of that is in the light when the incandescent bulb is used, but it's part of the kit shown on the counter.
