    2305 tachometer quit

My 2305 tach and hour meter quit working. I didn't dig into the problem yet but I cant seem to find anything about the tach in the factory service manual. Could someone provide me with a wiring diagram for the tach so I can have a starting point for troubleshooting?

The tach/hour meter on the 2305 is driven by a cable connected to the engine. So that would be the most likely culprit. It is not uncommon for them to break.

Isn't the tach and hour meter an integral part of the ICC dash panel on the 2305?

On the 1025R, the tach and hour meter are an integral part or the ICC.

The tach senses RPM off the stator of the alternator.

If you have the 2305 technical manual, there should be diagrams near the back of the book.

my tach died on my 2720.
The cable goes into the back of the gage assembly, from there there is a gear that runs at 90 degrees to the gear on the end of the cable. The gear in the back of the gage ass'y had its teeth stripped off in one spot.
I ended up replacing the whole gage ass'y.
Like most JD parts it was extravagantly priced.

If OPs problem is not the same as mine I have the old tach ass'y which I'd be willing to sell him parts from to get his working if its any help.

The instrument cluster on the 2305 is different than the 2720. As for the 2720, it's a shame they never made that little gear available as a part. It is attached with a screw so replacing it would be easy *IF* you had the part. There have been a few 2520/2720 owners with that problem. The trick is, when you FIRST see the tach acting a bit erratically, STOP and take the instrument cluster out and lubricate the cable and gear before they strip. Too bad someone with a 3D printer can't make a new gear.
