    ROPS removal??

    Hello guys,

    I am really having a hard time deciding between the X700 series and the 1025R. I keep leaning towards the 1025R until I see the height of the ROPS bar, even when folded. I know I would not be able to mow anywhere close to the trees on my property so it kind of kills it for me.

    Can the ROPS assembly be unbolted? Obviously, it is there for a reason. But, my fear is not rolling over, it is destroying the tractor on the trees.

    Eventually I plan on installing a mower deck on my JD 1025r, when and if that occurs I'll make a lap around the property, trimming back anything that might present a challenge for the ROPS. With the potential of moving to a larger deck (x300 has a 42" installed), I'll more than likely address several trees on my property that are nothing more than obstacles.... even for the x300. Removing ROPS.... unless replacing it with a cab that provide ROPS.... won't work for me, I'd rather have it... and address a couple of the obstacles than not have it. I also have a few areas that will present a challenge for the a larger mowing deck, hopefully I can get those addressed this spring also so I can transition mowing duties to the 1025r and sell my x300.

    The trees with their lower branches provide a great deal of privacy for me. So, I would prefer to not have to trim them up that high.

    According to another thread, the ROPS when folded is 67-68".

    You cannot unbolt the ROPS. I was in the same situation as you last month trying to decide between the two. The ROPS is what the fenders and the rear hitch bolt to. You can cut the ROPS off, and a few commercial mower guys around here have 1026/25R's and have done that. Makes them look a lot nicer to in my opinion. Are you looking at a X758 or an X750? If you want 4x4, my advice is to get the 1025R. I don't trust the hydraulic 4X4 on the X700's. Plus with 4X4 the 1025R is going to be cheaper. I only wanted 2wd and didn't need a loader, so wentry with the X750. I didnt like the idea of chopping a part of my brand new machine off. Not to mention if you try to sell it the next guy might want a loader, so he'll want the ROPS on there. I hate the auto connect deck too, which made it a big negative for the 1025R. I got my X750 with the standard drive shaft. The 1025R has a queer front mount bar that makes it difficult to adjust the deck level and make the auto connect work right. Hope that's helpfull. Both are excellent machines.

    Thanks for the info, that really helps.

    Agreed, I would not chop it off. I suspected it might not be easily removable for obvious reasons.
    I think I am going to go with my original choice then, the X739. I have had a x324 and X534, so I prefer to stick with the 4WS, it really helps on my property. I like the diesels and they are probably better long-term, but the convenience of 4WD and 4WS is tough to pass up. I almost bought a used 758 numerous times but was not quick enough. I definitely want the 4WD, I am tired of dealing with chains when snow blowing.

    I don't have any reservations on the X700s 4WD, there are so many out there and with the long warranty...

    I am going to take one more gander around the propery this evening and measure some areas to confirm what I am thinking.

    Just to let everyone know, if you cut them off, you will more than likely have to buy new ones if you trade the tractor/mower in.. A dealer cant, or should I say not supposed to sell a machine without ROPS that had ROPS when new.

    On my 2210, 2520s, and the 2305 I unbolted and removed them due to trees also.. I built some uprights and cross bar to hold lights, hitch pins, and trailer ball.. Is it smart to remove the ROPS? Its your choice to do or not IMO.

    Great solution there NEWT! Nice handywork.

    I don't know that that 1025's are that easy to change out, but either way I like the way you think!

    With your solution it also adds back the strength that would be lost due to lack of cross member there as well.

    I never heard those complaints about the auto-connect on the 1 series. More good info.
