    Trade in question...

There is a pretty good chance I will be trading in my 2210 on a newer 2520 this Friday.

The 2210 is in great shape...with the exception of the seat. It had a small tear in it when I bought it (used), but it has
gotten progressively worse. It is to the point now it is no longer attached to the bottom of the seat pan, only the back.

The dealer I'm working with didn't seem particularly worried about it over the phone, he said we would just 'work it out'.
Do you guys think it would be worth my time/money to try and get a new seat before the trade in?

I found an 'upgrade' seat on ebay for the 2210 for around $180. Searching online for OEM seats didn't provide anyone with
'live' inventory that I could see if they were in stock. I'm contemplating the 'ol epoxy route just to get me through trade in.

    Any suggestions or advice?

IMHO, the dealer will replace the seat with a new JD seat. I think he will ding you for it, but I would ask how much a new factory seat is for your tractor from another dealership so you know. You can use that number as a deduct from the number you want and use it to work with him. Since its so close, I would not replace it, but if you had time, I probably would have replaced it. A new seat can really make a tractor look nice.

This is what the seat sells for in JDParts:

LVA12751 SEAT, 2210 W/ SMV MOUNTING HOLES ADD 155.00 USD

So it probably cost's the dealer about $100ish and the labor to install it. I say don't let them ding you for more than $200 and just let them deal with it.

I would be willing to bet if someone walked in with the same tractor and a good seat, he would get no more for it than you. As long as it is in good overall condition physically and mechanically, you should be good. I'm thinking you would be the one losing money putting on a new seat. Now selling it privately is a whole other story.

Thanks for the advice guys. From my googling the seat, etc, I came to somewhat similar conclusions. From my phone conversations with the salesman so far, they seem reasonable.....I guess I will find out for sure on Friday!

Personally I would have replaced the seat before I talked to them. I would say to 90% of the trade in estimators it wouldn't matter, they would see right past it and adjust your price accordingly; however, there are a few who would see that and take that as a sign that it was left outside too often and not maintained correctly and might have other issues and low ball you on a price.

Also feel free to shop around on price. I traded my 2210 with 800 hours on it in for a 2520 two months ago. My local dealer who promised me "the best deal because our farm is in their region" gave me a price of $17,200 for the 2520 as configured with loader , mower, etc and $7500 trade in credit for the 2210, 200CX, 62D and 647 tiller.

The dealer 30 miles north of here gave me a price of $16, 490 for the identical configured tractor and trade in credit of $9250 for the 2210, 200cx and 62D and I got to keep the tiller.....so yeah there can be a huge difference.

And I had earlier this spring, before I decide to get on the special, just replaced all of the knobs that had bceom sun bleached and the seat that had seperated when it froze and dealer two recognized this and did say he was giving me more since he could pretty much paint the bucket and set it on the floor as reconditioned.

Also, I know on someone elses that had replaced the seat with a non-oem seat. Dealer said they would have left it if it had a seat switch but since it didn't , they had to dock them the $200 to change it to one that did...

Just for grins, I stopped by my local dealer this morning to see if they had a seat....they didn't of course.

But, for an extra $9 I could get one first thing tommorrow morning. That settled it.....a quick credit card swipe and it is done!

Worse case scenario, I don't trade the 2210 in on the 2520 and I keep my 2210...which will have a brand new seat I needed anyway.

The ultra reasonable, good guy price of $155 (which I am pretty sure is retail)

If nothing else, it will add curb appeal to the tractor. I also stuck the factory guards back on the top of the deck, and stuck the spread bar back on the 3 pt arms. It looks really good (except for the lack of a seat until tomm!).
