Linear Actuator in place of Hydraulic for SB1154?

Hi, I've been a faithfull reader of this forum for sometime and have recently purchased a 2520 with rear SB1154 blower. I am planning for the winter and looking to purchase a cab for the tractor, but I will need to convert the chute rotation from manual to something. I've read a lot of the posts using a wiper motor etc, but thinking about simply ordering the hydraulic field upgrade kit for the SB1154 and simply substitute the hydraulic cylinder with a weather resistant 12v actuator. I am thinking this would utilize all the same hardware and eliminate me from mangling a brand new SB1154. Just wondering if anyone has considered this route, or perhaps even done it ? Looking at what I need to add to have rear hydraulics independent of the front 200CX just seems too expensive and perhaps overkill. I can get an 12v actuator for under $100 vs list pricing for all the comparative equipment needed for rear hydraulics (power beyond, 3rd selective control valve etc., plus install ) would be close to $1000. Thanks for any feedback you may have and thanks for all the good content on this forum! Trevor

    Welcome to DT!

I think it will work fine, but you need a powerful LA when the ice builds up on the chute. Also most LA's are slow...being able to quickly move the chute when the wind changes is nice.

One other option is a electric diverter on the curl circuit on the FEL, then you can use the joystick to move the chute.

Thanks Kennyd .. that's something I hadn't considered...given the kit will come with the cylinder then I would assume I would need the electric diverter value, switch and run some hoses to the back...this is sounding like a much better plan... I'm glad I asked..

Yes, you can probably get it done to about $300 or so.

Here is a quick discussion on them: http://www.greentractortalk.com/foru...ghlight=9-7852

The 9-7852 is out of stock, and has been for a while so a phone call may be in order. I like that one because it is small. the alternative is the 9-5117A at $10 more.

Either way you have to add wiring and a switch so that is a wash...and the diverter is only $50 more than your estimated cost for a LA-and I think that was low. So the additional money will be 1/4" hoses and the QD's. You will end up with a faster, and stronger system this way.
