    1026R Fuel gauge off, then

I gave too much faith to the fuel gauge and ran out showing a 1/4 tank. Working with skid loaders and other diesel equipment, when they run out it really causes me to bark at the employees who forget to check and here I am doing the same! Thinking the worst, I simply refilled and attempted to re-start. The engine hucked-n-bucked then idled smoothly until I tried to accelerate. For the next 10 minutes, I tried to start and the engine would not go over idle RPM then quit. Now here is what all new JD1026ers need to be aware of. The fuel shut off valve is very close to the tip of your boot and I inadvertently turned the lever without knowing. As soon as I did, the machine ran like a Deer (I had to say that) and went back to work. I haven’t looked at the gas sender yet to see if I can remove and bend the float rod or maybe it has a cork on stick type or take the easy way out and simply refill at 1/2. I had a great time moving a 10 wheel load of topsoil/compost mix with the FEL. With the Heavy Hitch and a full rack of 42lb. suitcase weights (336lbs.), the balance perfect.

So did it really run out of fuel from the tank-or is it possible you turned off the fuel before the tank ran dry?

Ok...So I guess the confusing part is when you wrote that your boot turned off the fuel shutoff

    You're not alone!

While the "right boot turning off the fuel" trick is a related issue, I too have felt the sting of trusting a new fuel gauge. Mine was showing below 1/4 full but not empty so you're not alone. When I fuelled up the tractor bucked for a few seconds then purred. I dont want to run a diesel fuel pump dry so from now on its no less than 1/4 full for me. Lesson Learned!!

When I fill mine, the fuel comes up the filler neck before it indicates "F" or full. An hour later, the gauge seems to creep up to the "F" mark. The way I see it, the fuel gauge on the 1026R is just plain cheap. However, it is good enough to tell you that you need to refuel.

See, I do make sense. At least to the 1026 owners

Well I too am confused but no matter. It's a good thing we don't have to bleed the entire system anymore after running out of fuel cause thats fun, but I wouldn't know.
