    JD 650 Brake Cover Removal

I'm new and have searched the site, but couldn't find an answer. I'm also a new tractor owner with a 650. The brakes don't work and it looked straight forward to at least try to fix them.

I don't want to tear up the cover, but after removing the bolts and rapping on it with a rubber mallet, it won't budge.

Any advice to free the cover up without doing too much or any damage?

    Thanks.

It's probably just stuck. Take a small chisel and tap it in between the housing and the cover, it should come free after a tap or two. Once you get it off I think there's a snap ring on the brake shaft you'll need to remove in order to slide the assembly out.
