    Fixing a bent bar

Anyone here ever fix a bent bar? What's the best way to attempt to straighten them?

I bought a 28" Jonsered bar that was close to new, and was limbing, and felling some trees today. The last tree I was going to cut down had a split running down it, but I didn't think it ran all the way down it but when I started cutting it down it started opening at the split and pinched the hell out of the bar. I had to get the Green Machine and reach up in the tree with the FEL and push it the rest of the way over and it did this.

Here it was this morning. Almost a new saw. Only ran 2 or 3 tanks of gas through it.

I did pretty much the same thing a few years ago. I tried putting the bar in a big vice with 2 blocks of wood. But the bar cracked by the thin chain guide grooves. It’s hard to bend hardened steel with out cracking it.

    I agree with Michigan Grandpa.
This looks like a perfect opportunity to get online and order a Sigihara light weight bar or a Total light weight bar.
Oregon and Stihl also produce LW bars.
In a 25 inch bar you may save one pound or so, and more in a longer bar.
This makes the saw feel a lot more nimble.
I run Sugihara's on my saws and love them.

    Okay thanks.

I do have a couple 24" bars for it. One's a Woodland Pro and also a Tsumura which I believe is the same bars as a Total. I just bought this 28" bar because it was a pretty good deal on it and I modded the saw some and wanted to see how it would pull it with a 28" bar. It's just a Husqvarna HT380-93 bar with Jonsered on it which is some model of Oregan bar if I'm not mistaken. It's made in Canada.
