    "Portable" Anvil

Most of you know I talk a lot about my brother and his much bigger toys. Whenever I visit, I look through his scrap pile for things I can't get in suburbia. This year, he took a leftover piece of 1-1/4" steel plate (after cutting flange covers) and made me a small anvil. It's about 8-1/2" square and weighs 24 pounds. He tapped a couple of 3/8" threaded holes in the bottom so I can mount it. I can also clamp it in my bench vise. I don't own a brake, so all of my bending and shaping is done with clamps and a good old fashioned hammer . This anvil will be very handy!

Last year, he made a hitch attachment for my X350 that holds either a vertical or horizontal 2x4. That allows me to make additional accessories from wood and strap steel. The year before, he made a completely new hitch plate from 1/2" aluminum, plus a bolt-on mount with a 2" receiver hitch.

I need to visit him more often...
