    Old Drill

We came across an old black and Decker drill at work. Just curious if anyone has any idea how old it is. Serial number is 379836. Type D. Sorry for the poor picture. My phone camera is cracked.

Found a British ad for what looks to be the same drill that's dated January 1945.

My guess would be late 40's or 1951 at the latest.

Dad had one very similar looking and he bought it after coming home from WWII.

It's hard to tell from the pic. 1941?
    Check out this PDF http://vintagemachinery.org/pubs/101/5569.pdf

About 1/4 of the way down there are some similar looking pics. That PDF has a copyright date of 1941.

That looks to be it. I did a Google search but couldn't come up with much. Thanks for the info.

I sent a copy of that PDF file to a friend that collects old tools.

Can you still get a compatible battery pack for it

They just don’t make things like that anymore, everything is made to use throw away and buy new. However when building shelves the other day I realized my black and decker 14.4v drill, circular saw, saws all, and flash light combo are nearly 30 years old. I just keep getting new batteries when the old stop charging.

Speaking of old drills, I have an old 1/2" heavy duty reversible drill. It's a Shop Mate model 520TI (not sure of the letter after the T), made by McGraw-Edison. I don't know the year of manufacture. I haven't used it for quite a few years, but it still works.
