John Deere 21 push mower, motor smokes and has low power

    ? For you experts.

My old push mower it burns oil like crazy and doesnít have much power. Iím thinking that honing the cylinder and a ring job may fix the issue. If not Iíll get a new engine for it. Since Iím cheap Iíll go the cheap route first.

And I do have two new front wheels for it. I like this thing since the deck is cast aluminum and itís light and easy to push.

Looks like a B&S engine. Probably the only "Deere" component on that mower is the yellow sticker on the front. I'd start by getting the engine model numbers and seeing if you can download an engine manual. If it's burning oil that bad it's likely piston/rings or valves. There isn't much to one of those little engines.
