    30 Gallon Fuel Caddy???

Has anyone used one of the (ebay) 30 gallon fuel caddies? Click image for larger version.

Are they worth the $160? I'm looking for something I can take in for 20-25 gallons at a time, bring home & park it just inside my shed door to fill the 755 & 790. Don't want to pay Northern's $460 price!

I have had one of the Northern Roughneck caddies for about 6 years. I've heard pros and cons about the Ebay caddies . You kind of get what you pay for. I'm not saying they are junk but most folks have had to upgrade the hose and some the pump. That photo is a little deceiving as it doesn't look like the gauge has any guts in it. Granted, there is no question the Northern one is a bit over priced.

John Dow makes an identical unit and it is priced the same as Northern. HMC also makes a nice unit which looks just like the Northern unit but is available in 15, 20 and 30 gallon capacities.

I have the exact fuel caddy. Here is my 2 cents from 5 years experience using it to fill up the boat, lawn tractor, ATV's and other gas engine stuff at our cabin.

    1) The pump is very cheap, and leaks. I simply put up with the leaks. I like that it can both pump and pull, which is nice when filling a tank...you can pull the fuel in the hose back into the tank, or even pull a little out if you fill something too full.
    2) The hoses are cheap. It's nice that they are clear, but they kink easily.
    3) The tank itself seems to be fine. Five years and it does not leak, and I don't see any rust in the bottom. I use fuel stabilizer and I've had no issues with the fuel going bad.
    4) I like that it has wheels.
    5) The fuel gauge is a joke...it stopped working after a year. The good news, it's not really needed.

If I used it all of the time, I would replace the pump and hoses, but for my limited use, it works great. When full, it's heavy. I use my ATV ramps to wheel it in and out of the pickup.

In my opinion, it is worth the price and will do what you seem to be wanting.
When I bought it, the price was the same ($160), and no-ethanol premium was $4.89/gallon. The gas to fill it the first time cost almost what I paid for the tank!

I bought one of the HMC 30 gallon caddies for diesel last December. I put biocide in every time I fill it and I keep winter fuel treatment in it. I'd buy it again in a heart beat. It costs more, it's made in the USA and HMC makes the pump too. I'll likely buy one for gasoline as well.

I bought a 50 gallon made by Delta at farm and fleet for 179.00 and I put a easy 8 pump on it. Just plug it into the cigar lighter and away it goes. Added a auto shutoff nozzle and filter. I figure now with the 1025r and 2038r it should last about a year. Mounted on a pallet it slides in back of van and when it comes home I set it on a 4 wheel cart. It works out great.
