    Maxxd Dump trailers

I am looking to buy a new dump trailer. I have looked at a bunch, new and used. Lots of scams on the used ones and a wide variety of prices and quality on new ones. PJ, Cam Line, Big Tex, Belmont, Kaufman, Maxumm,I can't remember them all. I have been looking at Maxxd dump trailers out of Texas (14', 14k#, low bed) and they are head and shoulders above what I have looked at. Anyone have any experience with them, I want to put a deposit down and buy one. And as an aside the prices I see quoted on here are cheap, I negotiated down to 8k.

I have a 14' 14k PJ D7 dump. I have nothing but good things to say about it. One thing I would say is make sure the ramps store under the bed right below where you use them. A lot of other brands hang them on the side and they are heavy. I would not want to be carrying them around the side and lifting them up on slippery ground. Mine is a couple years old but my neighbor just quoted one like it and it was right about that same price.

Ramps underneath, tarp roller, built in charger. excellent epoxy paint, 22" bed height, 12k scissors lift, 8 drings. 10 ton jack, 6x3 1/4" wall tube frame, 16" 10 ply 8 lug tires and wheels, 3 way gate, blah blah blah. Any one heard of them?

I know its been almost a month ago, but I recently bought the 6x12 12k dump trailer. Appeared to be built strong, and looked more durable than some more expensive models. So far, very pleased with it. Had it loaded with as much dirt as I could get in it, and dumped with no problem.

I really wanted to buy one of those, very clean looking w/4x6 tube frame and struts every 12" under the bed. I ended up going with a PJ because the Maxxd had the side extension pockets cut into the bend in the side metal that made the tops of the bed. The holes (about 2x4) took all of the integrity and strength out of the top of the sides. The three models I looked at were bowed when you looked down the length of the side, I assumed from when they were strapped down for shipping. My focus has always been function over form so I went with a little better deal ($500) a free installed brake controller and a 16000 lb ball and tongue. I hope you get many years of great service from your Maxxd it's a good looking piece of equipment.

I have a smaller maxxd dump trailer. Mine is 7000 lb GTWR, 5' x 10' bed. I was seriously looking at the PJ and Maxxd. The PJ is an extremely nice trailer, so why did I go with the Maxxd.

First, the Maxxd has a 2 5/16" heavy duty coupler, the same sized PJ has a 2" heavy duty coupler. Since I have two trailers, I wanted the both to have the same size coupler.
Second, the Maxxed has standard: tarp, battery charger and heavy duty jack.
Third, the dealer that sells PJ is 60 miles from me. The Maxxd dealer is 25 miles from me.

Now, since you are talking a 12k trailer, IMO I believe the Maxxd is probably the better choice simply because of the scissor lift system. The scissor lift system is far superior to a direct lift, especially when you are talking 12k.

Both the PJ and Maxxd are very nicely built trailers. Since mine is a smaller dump trailer, the ramps are attached to the side. Since I don't use my dump trailer to haul my 1025R very often, this wasn't a problem for me. I can use this trailer to haul my tractor if I want, but my utility trailer is the trailer of choice to haul the 1025R. IMO, dump trailers aren't the best for hauling a tractor, although they can do it. The ramp angle is pretty step on a dump trailer vs a utility trailer with a beaver tail.

    Manomet,

Congrats on the new trailer. I've been looking at these dump trailers for years now. Just hasn't made it from the "wants" to the "needs" list yet.

Based on feedback from others who've invested in PJ trailers and the homework you've done I'm sure you made a great decision.

What type of work do you plan on doing with it? Tractor & building materials transport, hauling mulch & topsoil or .........?
