    Rotary Cutter for new 5045e

Will the JD 5045e handle a med. duty 7 ft. cutter or do I need to stay with a med. duty 6 ft. Flat field. Bush Hog type.

I think it depends on what you are cutting. That tractor has 37 PTO HP and i think it would struggle with a 7 foot cutter with anything but light work. I have an older 5205, 53 hp engine, 50 PTO. I run a 6 footer. In fact, I used it today on some dead CRP that was waist high to hood high. It walked right through that stuff because it was dead and dry. Another consideration is the 7 footer won’t fit on most trailers with wheel wells, only flatbeds.

I have a 5065e with the 12x12 power reverser transmission and a 7 ft bush hog brand mower. It handles the mower ok except in heavy Argentine Bahia grass. When cutting that, I have to go to A1 gear and usually have to cut only have the mower width to keep engine rpms up. I have a Bush Hog(brand) model BH27 mower. I would stick to no more than a 6 ft mower with a 5045 if it were me.
