    5100E PTO problems

I got a 2013 5100E an sometimes when I engage the PTO it won't take off I have to wait a min. Or two the it will take off or I have to shut the switch of an turn it back on. While all this is going on there is a red light an a yellow light flashing at me. Has anyone had this happen to them cause I thought is it has to be the switch.

Could be the switch. Also could be the solenoid. Does it make an attempt to turn when there is a delay coming on? Need to check error codes to see what is stored.

Well when I turn it on it turns real slow but if I shut it off and turn it back on it will take off but not all the time. I had the code at one time an my local JD dealer never heard of the code or could find it.

My 93e will sometimes start and then stop or not start at all when I engage the pto. However, it usually always starts right up when I stop it then turn it back on. This is why I hated this knew electronic PTO engage button.

There is an orifice on the back side of the pto valve. You might want to remove the valve body and check that there is no debris stuck in the orifice. Item #9.

If you dont mind me asking what would that part have to do with the PTO?

The orifice in the pto valve meters the flow of oil that engages the pto clutch. If a piece of debris partially plugs that orifice, the pto would be slow to engage or it may not engage at all if flow is restricted enough.

Well i called JD an just so happen they had a 5100E in the shop with the same problem . The service shop told me that there is a bearing on the 540E PTO that needs a shim. I ask if they thought it was a major issue he said no if it was up to him he would disconnect every one of the 540E selections.

When the problem happens on your tractor are you in 540 or 540E.
