    94 5200 diesel first start

Hi everyone I have this 94 JD 5200 that I just got with 878 hrs and it’s been sitting for 3-4 years now. Question is beside a new battery and topping off the fluids what can I do to make sure I don’t make anything worse. Nightmare situations are my specialty. So before I even crank that starter I was thinking I should somehow open up the combustion chamber because maybe it’s full of diesel fuel. Anyone have any idea how to do that or if I even should. So let me know what stuff you think I should do.

If you can rotate the engine(by hand) a few revolutions, you'll be good as far as the combustion chambers go. As you stated, all fluid changes are a very good idea, especially draining the old fuel. Add clean fresh diesel. Replace the fuel filter also. Loosen the injection lines and bleed the old fuel out before starting.
Also, check the clutch operation. If it's been sitting a long time, the clutch could be stuck to the flywheel, or pressure plate(or, both).

The above is what I'd do...or less.

I'd bet it fires right up.

It would be nice to crank it a bunch and get some oil moving before it fires.

Have a plan to KILL it if things go crazy.

Check the fluids and make sure the air filter isn't rotten and falling apart. Then bust (start) that thing off.. I doubt 3-4 years has hurt anything..
Then you can service the machine.. And it will need it..
