New to me 1986 212 with blower

Just did the handshake over the computer with the dealership on a 1986 212 with a 46" mower, wheel weights, chains, and 37A snowblower for $300. I went to see it about a month ago and it just came in the previous day so it looked dirty and abused and they didn't have it even written up yet. But I did run it and she ran okay after smoking right at the start. Well today I was curious so I went online and saw they still had it and they were asking $500 for the package. Plus it was all cleaned up! I figured I'd go lowball and offer them $300 for it. Well, to make the story short, after a few email exchanges with the general manager he accepted my offer and will have the package ready for me to pick up in the morning. I gotta say that I looked at quite a few tractors lately (a lot of them) and am thrilled with how this deal turned out compared to some I have "almost" made.

Scott Bitzer the GM there in Linwood (yeah, Crump). I am psyched and excited but she who must be obeyed hasn't seen or heard anything yet (I bought a used LT155 a couple weeks back). Guess I gotta sell my 15HP Craftsman with Blower now.

She's home! Got a question or two now. Is it okay to spray down the engine to clean it (while keeping as much water as possible away from the carb and coil)? The engine is quite dirty with caked on debris and grease so I'd like to spray it off as much as possible before going in with the hand tools, spray cleaner and towels.

Also - I am seeing the air filter as M47494 on the interweb so am curious if that's the right filter for my 12 HP kohler K301. And on the engine label what does Spec Number 47640 mean? It is a 1986 212.

    Nice buy!
Sadly, that tells me that dad's old 212 with mower and tiller isn't worth much... It's not near that clean and has a repower motor in it.

The spec number is a kohler nomber. The made hundreds of different k301’s that don’t have interchangeable parts. If it was just a generic version of the engine you would use the spec number to look up parts. Being a JD spec’d engine kohler hides that.

To find out the year of your tractor you need its serial number which is below the steering wheel.

I know the year because I used the VIN/serial number and the 212 page on tractordata.com and it is a 1986. I am curious as to the cleaning the engine issue, specifically the use of medium pressure water spray around the engine compartment.
