I would like to buy a new steering wheel for my Dad’s 1970 1020 as a Christmas present. His tractor is pretty nice as he has restored it but the steering wheel is missing the center. The price at the JD dealer is out of reach for me. What are some aftermarket companies that would be a good source for this? Would the steering wheel be an aftermarket brand or old stock JD?

I've bought several items from them. They are good folks.

They didn't have one listed for a 1020, but they may have one or it might cross over to one they have.
