Hi Richard
I have a 2014 1025R with a 54D MMM I had exactly the same problem and as you say the parts to convert it to the later style are expensive. So I did the conversion my self the material cost less than $10.00 and consisted of a piece of 3/4"shaft and a piece of flat bar. Before I started I layed the assembly out on a piece of ply wood and traced around it to make shore when complete it was the same, taking particular care to mark the position of the piece of flat bar that positions the PTO quick connect and the adjusting bolt goes against. Now grind the welds off the pieces of 3/4" tube on both the swing arms and knock them out of the swing arms, this will leave 3/4' hole after cutting the shaft to length lay the assembly out on the ply wood you traced the swing arm out on and tack weld the swing arms to the shaft on the inside, away from where the mower connects to ( DO NOT weld on the out side as the weld will fowl on the mower hooks). Test fit the assembly to the tractor adjust if needed and fully weld on the in side, now fit the piece of flat, it must be in the same position as before or the PTO will not align.
You will need to purchase a set of side plates that that hold the PTO quick connect onto the 3/4" shaft. You can file the old side plates to suite but the hole centers MUST remain the same ( not an easy job) or the PTO will not fit properly.
Pictured below is the broken shaft, as I said the the whole job cost me about $10 and my time, it has been working fine for a couple of years. I took delivery of my 1025R in January 2015, it has over 700 hrs on it.
Regards John
